Updates on Maria Marca's Health

Updated: 02/04/17   - Today we celebrated my mom's 103rd birthday party by doing a Karaoke Birthday Show just for my mom and cake. What a beautiful time we had today. We had over 60 people attend. My mom was so happy. This will be a day that we will always remember. And thank God she is still doing good. Below are some pictures that I took of the party.

Updated: 01/14/17   - My mom is still doing good. If this continues, when she turns 103, I will have a birthday party and karaoke show for her with just a cake and invite her close friends and family.

Updated: 01/08/17   - It's has to be God in her life because today my mom's mind was as clear as could be. She could talk to us and reason and make sense to all of us. David, Chad, Giovanni, Lucy and Cosmo and my wife and I  went to see her today and she was her old self again. She was eating again all by herself. She's still in pain but her mind was 90% better then it was yesterday morning. Thank God!!!  We are taking one day at a time. And thank God for giving us Mom back to us just for today.

Updated: 01/06/17   - Mom looked and acted great yesterday. We were all so happy and believed that she would recover. But today she got worse as far as her sense and understanding of who she is and where she is. Sorry to say but today she was totally disoriented. I've told the nursing staff to watch her and feed her and give her water. Please continue to hold her in your prayers.

Updated: 01/04/17   - I saw my mom today and I also spoke to the doctor that's taking care of her. The doctor told me the following: She's not eating or drinking well. She may have had a mild stroke that may be causing these problems about her communication and her logic. The doctor said that we don't know if her body can take all of this. That would include her Pneumonia, Urine infection and possibly her mild stroke. She may pull through this health condition or she may not. At her age it's going to be very difficult to recover. We have to take one day at a time. The doctor is having the nursing staff elevated her to high level care. Which means that the nursing staff will be feeding her and giving her water and monitoring her more closely.  I asked the doctor if we should put her in the hospital for better care. The doctor said that the nursing staff is doing everything that the hospital can do for her except put her on a respirator if she stops breathing. Because of her age, the doctor feels that she should stay here at the Nursing Center. The doctor does not recommend putting her on a respirator if the time comes because it would only extend her suffering. My mom, when she was well,  told me that she does not want to be put on a respirator. So if that happens, although I don't want to,  I will honor her wish. The doctor said that in the next couple of days, we will know more.  The nursing staff will keep close watch on her and will contact me if any changes take place.  Again please, please continue to pray for my mom.

Updated: 01/03/17   - Visited her this afternoon with some Italian Christian friends.  The results came back from her Urine tests and it came back positive. They will give her medication. Mom was worse today as far as understanding things.  She says that she has not been fed in 3 days but Lisa brought her a special Olive Garden pastina meal yesterday and fed her. There are many other things that she imagines that are not true or real that she told us today. I won't go into details because it's very painful for me and the family.  I told the nurses to watch her carefully and feed her and make sure that she drinks water because now she does not know what she's doing.  I'm trusting God to be with her on this very very critical time of her life. We love you mom.

Updated: 01/02/17   - Went to see my mom this afternoon.  No additional test results are back yet. I spoke to the nurse and she is eating and drinking water. She looks better. Her speech is better. Hearing her talk, she still sees things and makes comments that don't make sense. She told me that she was at Fry's getting onions. While we were there, saw kids playing around her. That the dining area was actually a ocean that's ready to drown her. Sees objects falling down from the air while we were with her.  She definitely improved but she still is not the same mom that she was before this took place. But I believe in miracles. Please continue to pray for her.

Updated: 01/01/17   - Urine tests are still not complete. But they are cloudy, which is bad. They need to complete the tests. The nurse will be giving her anti-biotic for the Urine infection and continue with the Pneumonia medication. She's eating little. I asked the Nurses to watch her carefully and make sure that she eats and drinks water. Her hands feel numb. On the positive side, her speech has improved about 80%. But when she talks, she does not make any sense. She makes sense about 5% of the time and the other 95% her conversation has no logic in it. She asks for things that she already has and sees things that are not real. I feel that she had a mild stroke. My wife's mom was behaving similarly when she had her stroke.  The nurse told me to give it a couple of days and see if the medication will help her. Please keep her in your prayers. It's hard for the family to see her like this.

Updated: 12/30/16  - One of the  tests indicates that she has Pneumonia. They are giving her medication for Pneumonia. More tests to follow. The staff at Phoenix Mountain Nursing Center is monitoring her 24 hours a day. She cannot take phone calls at this time. Visit this web site for updates.

Updated: 12/29/16  - In the last couple of days, my mom has lost her speech and is not behaving normally. They are performing various tests to determine the cause of the problem. Please hold her in your prayers.
